Finalist in Martin Luther King Spoken Word Contest
The Martin Luther King Spoken Word Contest is hosted by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Free University of Amsterdam) every year on October 9th. It is held to commemorate the honorary PHD which the VU Amsterdam granted to Dr. Martin Luther King.
Each year, judges ask for poetry submissions concerning different themes of MLK’s work. This year (2024), the theme was “infinite hope in finite despair”.
I was honoured to be one of three finalists (out of 33 submissions), who got to perform their poem to a live audience of 1000 people.

Close Up Interview with ENTR nl.
In March of 2024, I had the pleasure of being interviewed about my radio show (entitled Radiant Resistance), and a project I was managing called The New Anthology.
Freedom Day Speech
I had the pleasure of being invited to deliver a speech about Freedom on the 5th of May 2023 (Dutch day of independence). For my speech, I wanted to do something unconventional—I told a story about my grandfather who grew up in the segregated south.
Winner of Déja VU Spoken Word Poetry Competition.
In June of 2022, I won the Déja VU Spoken Word Poetry competition. This granted me the opportunity to present my poetry at the Déja VU Festival in Amsterdam. You can watch a full video of the poems I performed in the file above.
